The Young Presidents Organisation’s (YPO) chapter from Los Angeles embarked on a transformative journey at Mukesh Mills on February 15th, 2024 in a convergence of global leadership and cinematic creativity. The event offered YPO members a glimpse into the vibrant tapestry of Bollywood.
The team behind Skater Girl, Manjari Makijany, Vinati Makijany, and Emmanuel Pappas were invited by Madhu and Ravi Chatwani to speak on a panel and take the Young Presidents on the unique journey behind the making of Skater Girl. As the executives from Los Angeles immersed themselves in the rich cultural milieu of Mumbai, the event served as a catalyst for cross-cultural exchange and collaboration.
At the heart of the evening were the creative forces behind the acclaimed Netflix Original Feature film 'Skater Girl’ that was released on Netflix in 191 countries and 31 languages. They spoke about the challenges, the approach, and the ongoing community work behind building Rajasthan’s first ever skater-park that was built for the film in a rural village near Udaipur, Rajasthan. They discussed their unconventional process and illuminated the journey of bringing 'Skater Girl' to life and highlighted its profound impact on the community.
The Desert Dolphin Skatepark, a tangible legacy of the film, stands as a beacon of hope in Rajasthan's, Khempur village. The skatepark has become a hub for positive social change, offering free training workshops to children from surrounding villages and schools.
The journey continues, forging new paths towards a brighter, more inclusive future for all. The YPO group made a generous donation and commitment to Skate Basti Foundation's endevour in its next phase: building a Community Center at the Desert Dolphin Skatepark.
